Guidelines for submitting articles

  • We are always looking at ways to improve the RM Journal so that it offers pieces that inspire thinking about resource management matters in a diverse range of ways, particularly given the current proposed changes.   If you have any contacts you could direct us to via introduction, we would be more than happy to approach them.  Equally if you know of any current works being circulated by authors that we may approach to produce a similar or synopsis work that would be great too.

Of course, if you would like to put pen to paper we would also be very keen to hear from you.

    Contact us at info@rmla.org.nz.

  • All article submissions should generally be no longer than 2000 words (this is at the Editor’s discretion).

Articles should be written in accordance with the New Zealand Law Style Guide (3rd edition) and available through Thomson Reuters.

Important: All references are to be included in the body of the text. Footnotes, endnotes and bibliographies are discouraged. Visual aids may be included (high resolution required). The RMLA reserves the right to produce articles in a format, arrangement or manner that it considers, in its discretion, best suits the publication. Hyperlinks can be included as a reference provided the URL is provided.

The RMLA endeavours to limit any edits to grammar, typographical errors, layout or comprehension matters only.  Authors will be provided a copy of the edited version of their paper or article submitted for publication prior to publication if there is sufficient time to do so.  The purpose of this provision is to provide an opportunity to comment as to any edits made by the Editor or the Editorial Committee.  The Author agrees the failure to provide a copy of the edited paper or article for comment does not affect the consent or confirmations provided by their author under ‘Waiver and Consent’ of these guidelines.

  • Waiver and Consent

Acceptance of written work in the RMJ does not in any way indicate an adoption by RMLA of the opinions expressed by authors. Authors remain responsible for their opinions, and any defamatory or litigious material, the correctness of their work and the Editor and RMLA accept no responsibility for their work.

Authors also confirm by way of submission of their paper or article for publication by the RMLA that:

    1. The paper or article and the content of their paper or article is their own and has not been generated, produced or written by AI or another person.

    2. The paper or article has not been submitted for publication elsewhere and that the author retains copyright at the time of submission to RMLA.

    3. The author consents to RMLA copying, editing, printing and reproducing the paper or article in the RMJ and any other RMLA publications as the RMLA in its discretion elects to do.  Such publications may include digital or hardcopy books, website content, compendiums or future RMJ issues.

  • If you are interested in seeing your work published in the RMJ, please send a short synopsis to the Executive Officer for review and approval by the RMLA Editorial Committee in advance (see timeline below).

  • The Association has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Faculty of Law, University of Auckland, to facilitate contribution of journal articles that are of an appropriate standard to NZJEL. If you would like to submit an article, the guidelines for NZJEL can be found here.

  • To trigger a debate or contribute to an on-going discussion in RMLA’s Obiter, please send your paper to us.
